Maybe it’s just me or maybe my pants are too slim, but I’ve always been annoyed by having to carry a bulky wallet in my back pocket. A few years back, I decided I needed to do something about it, so I switched to the slimmest leather bi-fold I could find. It was black leather one with a beige inside from Lodis that I picked up at Nordstrom Rack. It was a great wallet, but it started to wear out and I figured it was time to move to the next level of minimalism: a card case. I had been looking for a little while, but couldn’t find the right one for me. Then late one night, while doing some online shopping, I came across Everlane’s card case in Lake blue (in the time since I bought it they sold out of Lake), and I knew I had to have it. I debated if it was really worth it for about a week, but then finally made the purchase. I’ve been using it for about a month now, and let me tell you, it definitely was worth it.
Quality and Material
I had never ordered anything from Everlane before, so I was excited to see if the quality lived up to the expectations I had for them. After a month of using it, I can tell you it does. The leather is genuine, plyable, and doesn’t add too much thickness. After using it for a month, it doesn’t seem to be showing much wear. The color of the leather was about 80% of the reason I bought it, because not many guys have wallets that awesome of a color. I was a little disappointed when it arrived and the color wasn’t quite as bright as it showed online, but it is still a pretty unique color and is probably a more classic color.
One of the reasons it took me so long to buy a card case was the fear that I wouldn’t be able to get rid of enough cards. The Everlane website says that the card case can hold up to four cards, so after some tough decisions and help from my iPhone Passbook, I got it down to three cards. There are two pockets on the front side and a larger pocket in the middle. I’ve been keeping three cards in the front and some folded cash in the middle. I occasionally put a fourth card in but it seems like that makes it too thick, and the same goes for adding more than a bill or two in the middle.
As much as I love my new wallet, here is where things start to get interesting. I placed my order and then began my impatient wait for my new card case to arrive. A day or two after placing the order, my shipment confirmation email arrived, and it said my two wallets would be arriving in a few days. My first thought was, “Shoot, I accidentally ordered two!” but I checked my original order and it only said one. Then I wondered if I was charged for two, but nope, still one. I figured it was just a mistake and that I would wait to see if two actually show up. Three or four days later, I arrived home to two small brown packages, each with a card case neatly wrapped up in an “Everlane” box. I quickly sat down at my computer and wrote an email to customer service asking what I should do and how to get the second card case back to them. The next day, I received the friendliest email saying, “Don’t worry about sending back the other card case, think of it as a gift from us! :)” If that doesn’t say good customer service, I don’t know what does.
